Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation Supports People Navigating Mental Health & Recovery Challenges

The Yocha Dehe Community Fund awarded a $10,000 grant to Crescent Moon Center (CMC), a women-led 501c3 nonprofit and peer-support community that offers equine-assisted learning and experiential arts workshops in Solano County.

Crescent Moon Center works in close partnership with local nonprofits the Solano Land Trust and Access Adventure. Solano Land Trust hosts the program at Rush Ranch, a 2,070-acre nature preserve of marsh and rolling grassland in the Grizzly Island Wildlife Area. Access Adventure provides therapeutic horses for equine-assisted learning. Together, this partnership ensures that Solano County, one of California’s most underserved regions, has access to healing programs.

The Yocha Dehe Community Fund said in a letter, “We appreciate Crescent Moon Center’s commitment to providing no-cost, accessible workshops that foster resilience and community connection, especially for those navigating mental health and recovery challenges."

Crescent Moon Center’s innovative program teaches tools for self-reflection, emotional regulation, and mindfulness, along with the community support needed to achieve long-term wellbeing and sobriety. Their mission is to build a community of support around people in recovery from or at risk for alcohol and drug dependency, and those facing life challenges due to stress, trauma, and disability, including unhoused individuals, veterans, and survivors of domestic violence.

“We are deeply honored by the Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation’s support,” said Karen Kahn, Founder, President, & Executive Director of Crescent Moon Center. "This grant will enable us to continue creating a safe, inclusive space and an empowering path to healing, resilience, and growth through horses and art. Community support is critical to ensure everyone can experience our life-changing, holistic wellness programs.”

The Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation Community Fund has long been a leader in supporting programs that improve the quality of life and fostering change in local communities, including education, health care, native rights, social services and environmental stewardship. Their values and commitment to education and health aligns closely with Crescent Moon Center’s vision and this grant ensures that holistic wellness resources are inclusive and accessible to all. The majority of participants receive scholarships and workshops are offered at no-cost to community partners serving unhoused populations, veterans, survivors of domestic violence, those with disabilities, and people recovering from addiction.
