In partnership with Downtown Youth Wellness Center (DYWC), a Santa Clara County Behavioral Health Department program, we are helping to create a safe space for at risk young adults (18-25) who have limited resources. DYWC has a flexible and open approach to decrease barriers to access and reduce stigma and aims to keep in mind the community’s cultural and linguistic needs of the youth that attend the center. Their approach reflects current research that drop-in youth centers can be instrumental in supporting youth in navigating and accessing services across systems while also providing a space for activities, learning, socializing, and a place to just “be”.
Young adulthood is a pivotal stage in life, marked by big life decisions, complex transitions, and relationship challenges. Behavioral health issues like anxiety, depression, trauma, and substance-use can hinder their ability to succeed academically and build healthy relationships. Crescent Moon Center empowers at-risk young adults through transformative expressive art workshops, providing a safe space for self-discovery and healing. Workshops encourage participants to dive into creative expression as a way to manage emotions and reflect on life experiences. These workshops offer more than just an artistic outlet; they serve as a peer-support group, opportunity to learn new skills for wellness, improving confidence and emotional well-being.
“Crescent Moon creates a safe and inclusive space for people to be supported. Diversity and belonging are central to our values.
As a nonprofit, Crescent Moon is dedicated to improving accessto holistic wellness resources and programs for diverse, underserved and under-resourced communities.
Donations are critical to fund program scholarshipsfor those who need financial support to accessthese life-changing programs,” said Karen Kahn,Founder & Executive Director of Crescent Moon Center.
We believe that every young adult deserves the support needed to navigate life challenges and achieve their full potential. Our experiential workshops can empower young adults to discover their path toward resilience and growth.
If 10 people donate $150 each, you will help us give a year of free expressive arts workshops to young adults at DYWC. If you give $125 monthly in 2025, you can sponsor a young adult for the entire year. Our goal is to raise $15,000 by year's end to cover the cost of staff, supplies, and scholarships.
