ABOUT

CRESCENT MOON

CENTER

A Place for Healing

Through Horses & Art

OUR MISSION

Crescent Moon Center is a 501c3 nonprofit whose mission is to build a community of support around people recovering from addiction by:

(1) offering experiential equine-assisted learning and creative arts programs

(2) improving access to recovery resources and programs for diverse, underserved and under-resourced communities

(3) advocating for change in the public’s perception of substance use disorders

(4) developing coalitions and initiatives for addiction recovery support locally, regionally, and nationally

OUR VISION

Crescent Moon Center envisions a world where addiction is met with compassion -- where shame and stigma are no longer obstacles to recovery.

Through advocacy, we give voice to the systemic and cultural barriers that negatively affect people impacted by addiction and facilitate public dialogue that will lead to a shared understanding and change.

We offer a bridge for people in recovery, a bridge that helps avoid relapse, a bridge to a meaningful and life-fulfilling engagement with community.

OUR APPROACH

Through co-creative expression and equine-assisted learning, Crescent Moon Center offers an experiential approach to recovery, one that is based on learning through personal observation and interactive experience. This experiential approach is followed by reflection, integration and application of newly learned perspectives.

Crescent Moon Center’s arts and equine programs are designed to integrate with one another. Each workshop provides a unique lens of self-discovery, helping to address the root causes of addiction through a deep and creative journey. We also provide ongoing support for reintegration into meaningful personal relationships and employment.

Crescent Moon Center’s program helps to prevent relapse through a creative and authentic engagement with self and others. Our collaborative experiential approach counteracts the social isolation, shame and stigma which addicts often experience as a significant challenge to recovery.

Crescent Moon Center is an alternative and complementary to traditional recovery models because we offer an experiential educational program along with a deep sense of community that supports long-term recovery. Crescent Moon bridges the gap between residential and outpatient programs, and sober living homes.

WHO WE SERVE

Our multi-cultural co-creative educational programs are for people who have exhausted their resources trying to maintain sobriety, those who have not been able to take advantage of costly recovery programs, or those who are looking for new and creative ways to enhance their recovery.

We work in partnership with the Solano County Land Trust to primarily serve the residents of Solano County, and the Greater Bay Area, but also accept participants from around the country.

Solano County one of the most under-resourced and underserved counties in California – a County which has high unemployment and a significant alcohol and opiate problem. As a nonprofit, we are dedicated to providing underserved communities access to innovative addiction recovery programs and long-term support.

Crescent Moon is a scalable model which we are building through coalitions with community foundations and organizations, including nonprofits and government agencies.  We have started locally with a successful pilot program and are building our network regionally with the intention to grow nationally

GET

INVOLVED

You may have heard about, or known someone whose life has been touched by opioid, alcohol or other drug addiction - whose addiction has resulted in the loss of friends, family, work or, worse yet, resulted in the loss of a loved one.

Action can and must be taken to prevent substance use disorders from compromising lives. More programs and a community interested in helping those affected are needed to support long term recovery after treatment ends, or if treatment is unaffordable. This is our mission.

Together, we can be a moving force in creating an environment where recovery can become a dynamic, engaging, transforming and exciting process - and accessible to everyone.

"HOW WE RESPOND TO THIS [ADDICTION] CRISIS IS A MORAL TEST FOR AMERICA. ARE WE A NATION WILLING TO TAKE ON AN EPIDEMIC THAT IS CAUSING GREAT HUMAN SUFFERING AND ECONOMIC LOSS?

ARE WE ABLE TO LIVE UP TO THAT MOST FUNDAMENTAL OBLIGATION WE HAVE AS HUMAN BEINGS:

TO CARE FOR ONE ANOTHER?"

U.S. Public Health Service Surgeon General (2016)
